Callao Day is a special celebration that takes place on August 20 because on a day like this, political autonomy was granted to this province by the National Government in 1836.

Later, Callao was named as a Constitutional Province on April 22, 1857, by the then president of the nation Ramón Castilla, thanks to an initiative promoted by the National Convention chaired by the Chalaco lawyer, José Gálvez.

This province has had a vital importance for the entire country since the Colony, where it became one of the most important in the entire American continent. In 1960, the Jorge Chávez International Airport was created to replace Limatambo, thus becoming our country's main gateway to aeronautical transportation.

In this year, 2021, Callao celebrates the 185th anniversary of its Political Autonomy.
