Why is Independence Day commemorated

Every July 28 , Peru remembers a key event in its great history: Independence Day ; an event that gave rise to the birth of the great country we know today. As of this event, all ties with the Spanish crown were cut, thus ending economic relations and improving the situation in which the country's indigenous people lived.

In Peru , Independence Day or National Holidays is a national holiday.

How did the Independence of Peru come about?

The antecedents of the Independence of Peru go back to 1810 with the demonstrations and revolts that lasted more than a decade. It was with the arrival of José de San Martín and his Liberating Expedition that independence began to be thought of as a possibility.

A year later, on July 15, 1821, the city council met and there the Act of Independence of Peru was drawn up . This after the viceroyalty troops left the country. The independence document was supported by more than 3,000 citizens of all social classes.

But it was on July 28, 1821 when José de San Martín proclaimed the Independence of Peru, before thousands of people who were gathered in the Plaza Mayor.
