Every May 2 is another anniversary of the Battle of Callao , also known as Combat of May 2 . History of the Combat of May 2

Although, the Battle of Callao did happen; As its name indicates, on May 2, 1866 , the antecedents that gave rise to this war date back to 1863. In that year, there was an accident at the Talambo Lambayeque farm, in which a Spanish farmer settler died who woke up the old misgivings that Spain had against Peru since Independence in 1860.

From then on, the tension only increased due to other incidents and events, which finally led to the fact that on January 12, 1866, Peru and Chile signed an alliance and, in addition, declared war on Spain. A little later Ecuador would join; on January 30, and Bolivia; on March 22, although the latter nation did not actively participate in the combat.
